As some of you may know, Canada has new legislation this July relating to CEM (Commercial Electronic Messages) or spam. This legislation will hopefully help cut down on unwanted email solicitation, SMS texts, social networking alerts etc. Companies will be forced to comply to certain standards including three key factors.

1. Implied or obtained consent.
2. Clear identification of the sender or organization.
3. The message must have an unsubscribe feature.

If your organization uses CEMs to solicit business or to raise funds, we suggest you read up on the new legislation and prepare for the July 1, 2014 initial launch. There are some different points relating to types of emails, business, charities etc. As confusing as it may be, it is important to know since the ramifications of non compliance can mean big bucks.
